Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced two positive updates on Saturday. He revealed that a new power policy would be introduced soon, assuring the public that there would be no power tariff hike or power cuts.
Speaking to the media, the Deputy CM criticized the previous government for damaging the power sector, which required significant effort to rectify. The government has been reviewing power purchase agreements, including those with Chhattisgarh power transmission companies, and took action promptly after receiving the report.
Bhatti Vikramarka proudly stated that the newly-elected government achieved a new record by supplying 15,623 MWs of power in a single day on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 15,497 MW. Measures have been put in place to ensure uninterrupted power supply over the last three months, with projections estimating a peak demand of 16,500 MW during the summer.
The minister reassured the public that there would be no increase in power tariffs, emphasizing that the government does not intend to burden consumers. Acknowledging the financial strain on Discoms due to free power supply to the agriculture sector and domestic consumers using up to 200 units, he mentioned that over 40 lakh electricity consumers have benefited from this policy since February.
In the upcoming power policy, Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted the prioritization of solar, hydel, and wind energy generation. He emphasized the government’s focus on green energy production to meet future power demands. Additionally, plans for floating solar projects on canals and irrigation projects are in the works following a thorough study by officials.
