The Telangana government has allocated ₹465 crore for sports development in the 2025-26 budget. This move highlights its commitment to improving sports infrastructure and supporting top athletes.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced plans to establish Young India Sports University in Hakimpet, near Hyderabad. The university will be built on a 200-acre campus and will include 12 specialised academies. These academies will provide advanced training in different sports, aiming to produce world-class athletes.
In addition to the university, Telangana is developing a Sports Hub in Future City. This hub will meet international standards and include a Sports Science Centre and a Sports Medicine Centre. These facilities will help athletes with expert training, performance analysis, and injury recovery. The government hopes this investment will make Telangana a leading sports hub in India.
The Chief Minister also honoured Telangana’s top athletes. He praised cricketer Mohammed Siraj for his performance in the T20 World Cup and boxer Nikhat Zareen for winning the World Boxing Championship. Both athletes have been rewarded with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) positions.
Revanth Reddy also recognised para-athlete Deepthi Jeevanji’s achievements. She became the first woman from Telangana to win a Paralympic medal in 2024. As a mark of appreciation, she has been given a Group 2 government job.
