Hyderabad: New Year Celebrations Boost Cake Demand Across the City

Cakes of various flavors have become the go-to choice for teetotallers during New Year celebrations. Popular options like chocolate, vanilla, and fruit-filled cakes are flying off the shelves, while dry fruit plum cakes are also in high demand. Customers are seeking a wider variety of cakes to enjoy as they welcome the New Year.

Exotic fruit cakes, in particular, have seen a significant rise in popularity. Home bakers have reported receiving an impressive number of orders this year. To attract even more customers, several bakeries have introduced gift hampers and discounts. However, the increased demand has also led to a rise in prices. For instance, the price of black forest cake has doubled, going from Rs 620 per kg on regular days to Rs 1,240 per kg during the festive season.

Many bakers have noted a significant increase in sales compared to the previous year. Bulk orders throughout December have been a common trend. Mohamed Salim, the owner of a well-known bakery in Secunderabad, shared, “This year, we have received a good response. One week before New Year, many customers pre-booked cakes. Customized, theme-based cakes are also in demand, and we’ve worked to meet their needs at affordable prices.”

Another bakery owner from Banjara Hills highlighted the popularity of cakes iced with marzipan and fondant fruit plum cakes. “Sales are exceptionally good at this time of the year,” he said.

Home bakers have also seen an unexpected boom in business. Seema D’Souza, a home baker, expressed her delight, saying, “The sales were beyond my expectation, as this year there has been a high demand for plum cakes.”

As the New Year approaches, Hyderabad’s love for cakes continues to grow, making this festive season sweeter than ever.
