The Telugu Desam Party has elevated five leaders to the position of members of parliament in the Rajya Sabha. These leaders are Prof C Lakshmanna, Yalla Sashibhishan Rao, Puttapaga Radhakrishna, B Satyanarayana Reddy, and Parvataneni Upendra. This is the first time the party has MPs in the Upper House.
The first-ever Member of Parliament for TDP was Gotte Bhupati in 1983. The TDP then emerged as the main Opposition in the Lok Sabha in 1984 under NT Rama Rao’s leadership. The party had 36 MPs from Andhra Pradesh and C Madhava Reddy was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
However, the TDP’s representation in the Rajya Sabha will be zero from April 2024. The YSR Congress, on the other hand, will have all 11 Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh. TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has been skillfully maneuvering elections to get his nominees elected to the Upper House.
Despite having only one MP currently, Naidu is facing challenges from the BJP and the YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh. The future of the TDP depends on Naidu’s strategies and alliances. Whether the party can regain power and send leaders to the Upper House in the future remains uncertain.
TDP faces humiliation with zero Rajya Sabha seats, while YSRCP achieves 100% success. Will Chandrababu’s luck turn around? #TDP #YSRCP #RajyaSabha
