Hyderabad’s Cleanliness and Greenery Drive
As part of the ‘Swatchadanam-Pachhadanam’ (cleanliness and greenery) programme, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be distributing saplings door-to-door. The programme aims to create awareness among citizens about cleanliness and greenery.
The GHMC has formed special teams involving Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and voluntary organizations for this five-day initiative. The goal is to maintain sanitation and increase greenery in Greater Hyderabad.
On Friday, GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata held a meeting with zonal and additional commissioners and other department officers. They discussed the arrangements for the programme, which will run from August 5 to 9. She directed GHMC officials to ensure the successful implementation of ‘Swachhadanam-Pachhadanam.’
The Commissioner instructed officers from various departments to implement the programme in all 150 wards. Special teams will focus on cleanliness and greening, involving RWAs and voluntary organizations. These teams will be trained to take care of community plants.
“The teams set up for cleanliness and greenery should work hard to ensure that the programme is properly implemented as per schedule at the field level. As part of the programme, useful plants should be distributed and also monitored,” she said.
The programme also aims to address civic problems. Saplings will not only be planted but steps will be taken to ensure their survival. The Commissioner directed officers to pay attention to mosquito problems, prevent infectious diseases, and maintain water conservation pits to create awareness among households.
Following the government’s direction to hold this innovative programme for five days, Amrapali asked officials to conduct it vigorously in each ward. She emphasized the need to maintain the same spirit continuously and ordered daily reports to be submitted by 4 pm.
In terms of cleanliness and greenery, town-level and slum-level federations, along with sanitation staff, were asked to create public awareness. Amrapali advised them to monitor the programme regularly and ensure its successful implementation to increase the city’s clean and green cover with residents’ participation.
