Hyderabad: As part of the ‘Swachadanam – Pachadanam’ (cleanliness-greenery) programme, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been working hard to clean and green the city. On the third day of this five-day initiative, they removed over 3,053.58 tonnes of garbage and 2,668.15 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.
GHMC officers visited 1,152 colonies across the city. They distributed 1,24,069 plants and planted 34,783 saplings. Additionally, 2,973 meters of median plantations and 45.91 km of avenue plantations were completed.
A ‘parichayam’ programme was organized for 44,468 households. They attached 709 sewage treatment plants (STPs) to shops, commercial areas, and residential welfare associations (RWAs). They also cleared 3,105 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) and sacked 73 GVPs. Moreover, 346 community halls, 143 graveyards, and 387 educational institutions were cleaned, and 135 weekly market committees were formed.
Anti-larva operations were carried out in 1,88,109 houses, and fogging was done in 1080 colonies and 19 lakes. They sterilised 1,731 stray dogs and identified 1,132 unsterilised dogs. About 307 people were found feeding dogs in 323 feeding areas.
They removed over 56.2 tonnes of solid waste and 67.7 tonnes of C&D waste from lakes and waterbodies, and cleared 83 GVPs. Additionally, 1,113 awareness meetings on digital door numbering and 583 SLF meetings were conducted.
The engineering wing officers desilted 51.534 km of drainage, filled 488 potholes, and cleared 142 water stagnation points.
