In Hyderabad, during the winter season, a large number of children are getting sick with pneumonia. So far, 50 people have been admitted to Nilofar Children’s Hospital with symptoms like cold, cough, fever, sore throat, and difficulty in breathing.

Some people have symptoms that last for 5-6 weeks and they think it is pneumonia, so they go to the hospital. Doctors are warning against self-medication and using regular antibiotics.

Dr. Usharani, the superintendent of Nilofar, says that the best way to prevent children from getting sick during the winter is by providing “kangaroo care”. This means that mothers should put their babies on their chests to keep them warm. The mother’s body temperature protects the child from seasonal diseases. It is advised to keep children under mother care as much as possible.
