Minister Konda Surekha Urges Support for BC Caste Census
Hyderabad: Minister for Forest and Endowments Konda Surekha has called on the Backward Classes (BCs) to reject any opposition to the caste census. She emphasized that the Congress government is dedicated to ensuring justice for the backward and weaker sections, which make up 56 percent of Telangana’s population.
Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Konda Surekha criticized the previous BRS government for neglecting BC welfare. She stated that under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the government has initiated the BC caste census to address long-standing issues.
She also mentioned that the caste census is being conducted as part of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vision. She condemned BRS legislators for walking out during crucial discussions and questioned their commitment to BC welfare.
The Minister pointed out that although the BRS government had conducted a comprehensive family survey, no concrete measures were taken for the BCs, nor was any report released. She accused BRS leaders of misleading people with false propaganda on social media to divert attention from the Congress government’s efforts.
Konda Surekha warned that opposing the caste census would ultimately harm the BC communities. She urged people to support the government’s initiative for their own welfare.
The press conference was also attended by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah, Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas, Government Sector Corporation Chairman and Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankaraiah, and MLC Egge Mallesham.
