Supreme Court Collegium Recommends New Chief Justices for Seven High Courts
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices for seven high courts in the country. The high courts of Bombay, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala, and Manipur will soon have new Chief Justices as per the recommendations of the Collegium. The decision was made during a meeting held by the Collegium led by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, on Wednesday.
After receiving approval from the central government, Justice Sunitha Agarwal of the Gujarat High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. Similarly, all the recommended judges will be elevated to the position of Chief Justices of their respective high courts. Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur from the Bombay High Court has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, while Justice Siddharth Mridul from the Delhi High Court has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Additionally, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatta have been recommended as the Chief Justices of Telangana and Kerala High Courts respectively.
The recommendations for the appointment of new Chief Justices were made by the Collegium and were subsequently approved by President Ram Nath Kovind. With these appointments, the high courts of Telangana and Kerala will soon have new Chief Justices. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatta will be elevated to the position of Chief Justices of their respective high courts.
The Supreme Court Collegium is responsible for making recommendations regarding the appointment of judges. Once the President gives his approval, the judges are elevated to higher positions. Currently, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatta serve as judges at the Telangana and Kerala High Courts respectively. With their recommended appointments as Chief Justices, they will be able to contribute to the administration of justice at a higher level.
This move by the Supreme Court Collegium is expected to strengthen the judiciary system in the country. The appointment of new Chief Justices will ensure the smooth functioning of the high courts and the timely delivery of justice.
