A 59-year-old man from Bihar, named Om Prakash Prasad, was diagnosed with a serious heart condition called low-flow, low-gradient aortic stenosis. This condition is both rare and life-threatening. His heart was only working at 19% of its normal capacity, while a healthy heart usually functions at around 65%. Because of this, doctors initially believed he needed a heart transplant. However, many hospitals felt his case was too complicated and were unsure about performing the surgery.

Eventually, Mr. Prasad sought help from Dr. Sudheer, a Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals in Begumpet, Hyderabad. After carefully examining the situation, Dr. Sudheer realized that Mr. Prasad’s condition was critical, and there was only a 10% chance of survival. Despite these odds, Dr. Sudheer and his team decided to move forward with the surgery. On October 23, they performed an aortic valve replacement to address his heart problem.

During the surgery, the doctors encountered several complications. Mr. Prasad’s heart became weaker, his valve was degrading, and his overall heart function was very poor. However, thanks to the team’s expertise and careful handling of the situation, they were able to successfully complete the operation.

After the surgery, Mr. Prasad was kept on a ventilator for 48 hours. The doctors carefully reduced his heart medications in the days following the operation. He stayed in the ICU for seven days, during which time he gradually improved. By the tenth day, he had recovered well enough to be discharged from the hospital.
