The Students’ Union of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad strongly criticized the police action in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. They believe that this crackdown on the Muslim community is unwarranted and part of a political agenda by the BJP and RSS. The union questioned why a Madrasa and a Masjid were demolished while the case is still pending in court.
According to reports, many residents, especially women, were injured during the police intervention. Rubber bullets, tear gas shells, and even machine guns were allegedly used, resulting in the deaths of six Muslims. The union’s president, Mateen Ashraf, stated that these actions go against professional policing standards.
The union demanded an immediate halt to the demolition until a peaceful resolution can be reached through negotiation and dialogue. They also called upon the Supreme Court of India to take action against the selective approach of the administrative machinery and political leadership, holding responsible officials accountable.
Mohammed Abbas, the State general secretary of AWAAZ, believes that this incident is part of a systematic targeting of Muslims by the BJP government for political gain. He urged Muslims across India to remain vigilant and not fall prey to such political strategies when dealing with similar issues.
