In Hyderabad, the rain has made things difficult for people in the city. The streetlights are not working, which is causing problems for both commuters and residents and leading to frequent accidents. Despite multiple complaints, nothing has been done to fix the issue.
The recent rains have caused waterlogging in many areas, making it hard for residents to get around. On top of that, the dysfunctional streetlights are adding to their troubles. Commuters are having trouble because there are no streetlights to guide them.
Residents have been inconvenienced for several days now because the streetlights have not been working, and authorities have not made any effort to repair them. The main roads leading to various neighborhoods, including Srinagar Colony, Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet, Yousufguda, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Shaikpet, Malakpet, Santosh Nagar, Nampally, Red Hills, Vijaynagar, and parts of the Old City, have non-functional streetlights.
In Kukatpally, as evening approaches, many areas become dark because the streetlights are not working. Sriram from Ameerpet mentioned that there are no functioning streetlights in several areas, and this becomes even more dangerous during the rain. Potholes on the roads become harder to see without streetlights, leading to accidents.
Residents blame the relevant departments for neglecting road repairs or laying new roads where necessary. Social activist Mohammed Ahmed stated that although lights were installed in some places a few months ago, they only work occasionally.
Commuters, especially those on two-wheelers, are at risk when riding on these poorly lit stretches. Rainfall, waterlogging, potholes, and non-functional lights pose a major threat to their safety at night.
Ahmed mentioned that authorities promised to repair and install lights in various places but failed to follow through. Despite numerous complaints from residents, nothing has been done. In areas like Ramnastpura and Bahadurpura, the road is barely visible at night, and the situation worsens after rain. Ahmed urged authorities to prioritize the safety of commuters and fix the lights as soon as possible.
The same situation can be observed in various neighborhoods and side streets across the city. The streetlights are not working, and despite complaints, no repairs have been made. Traveling at night, especially after rain, is not safe. Additionally, there has been an increase in dog attacks in the darkness, which is causing accidents as motorists lose balance.
Asif Hussain Sohail from Surya Nagar colony in Shaikpet shared that the situation is the same in his area. The streetlights are out of order, and despite complaints, no action has been taken. Traveling at night is not safe, and there have been more dog attacks. This has caused accidents as motorists struggle to maintain balance.
