The Energy Department in Telangana is performing exceptionally well. Even though power demand has increased across the state, power companies have managed to provide a steady and high-quality electricity supply without interruptions.
According to TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui, Telangana recorded its highest-ever power demand on March 20 at 4:39 PM, reaching 17,162 megawatts (MW). This is higher than last year’s peak demand of 15,623 MW, recorded on March 8, 2024. The state’s daily power consumption also hit 331.161 million units.
Power usage has significantly increased over the past three Yasangi seasons. Many districts have seen a sharp rise in electricity consumption compared to previous years. In the combined Mahbubnagar district, power usage grew between 12% and 59.36%.
The main reasons for this surge include higher electricity usage during summer, 24×7 free power supply to farmers, expansion in the industrial and IT sectors, and increased use of electrical appliances like geysers and air conditioners in cities. Despite this rising demand, power outages and breakdowns have decreased significantly.
Compared to last year, power interruptions in the Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company’s jurisdiction dropped by 24.01%, while the overall state saw a reduction of 23.64%. Additionally, the time needed to restore power after outages has improved. In the past, power restoration after wind or rain-related disruptions took several hours, but now it is much faster.
