The BJP has strongly condemned the Opposition for politicizing the tragic stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday night, which resulted in the loss of 18 lives.
The party expressed deep condolences to the victims and their families. It urged political leaders to show responsibility and restraint while discussing such incidents, instead of using them for political gains. Former Union Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav blamed the Railway Ministry for the tragedy and demanded the resignation of Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
In response, BJP State Spokesperson NV Subash questioned the Opposition's accountability. He asked how many Opposition leaders had resigned in the past under similar circumstances. He also criticized Lalu Prasad Yadav, pointing out his legal troubles related to alleged encroachments on railway properties in Bihar.
Subash argued that instead of blaming others, Lalu Prasad Yadav, as a former Railway Minister, should offer constructive solutions to manage overcrowding at railway stations. He defended Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, calling him a competent technocrat and an experienced bureaucrat who has led major reforms in Indian Railways. He dismissed the demand for Vaishnaw’s resignation as a desperate attempt by some leaders to remain politically relevant.
Additionally, Subash criticized Lalu Prasad Yadav for making derogatory remarks about the Kumbh Mela, where he allegedly dismissed the sacred gathering as meaningless. Subash warned that such statements would lead to a strong electoral backlash.
He praised the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government for its successful management of the Kumbh Mela, which included free food, restrooms, and other facilities. He highlighted the massive participation of Hindus from different castes and communities, calling it a sign of cultural and spiritual resurgence.
