    St. Joseph’s College of Commerce in Hyderabad, India recently hosted an international conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 25th to 27th February 2021. The conference aimed to bring together experts, scholars, researchers, and policymakers from different countries to discuss and exchange ideas on the implementation of SDGs.

    The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. There are 17 SDGs, which include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.

    The conference at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce focused on the implementation of SDGs in India and other developing countries. The conference had several keynote speakers who shared their experiences and expertise on SDGs. The speakers included Dr. Rama Rao, Advisor to the Government of Telangana on Sustainable Development Goals; Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament and former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations; Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, former Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC); and Dr. Vandana Shiva, environmental activist and author.

    The conference covered a wide range of topics related to SDGs.
