Information Technology and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu has announced that the Hyderabad Pharma City project will not be moving forward due to legal complications and opposition from farmers unwilling to give up their land.

“The government has decided to wind up the Pharma City project due to legal issues and other concerns,” said Babu at the BioAsia event in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The project was intended to be a large cluster of pharmaceutical manufacturers, but it will not be pursued further.

Instead of Pharma City, the government plans to establish multiple Pharma Villages across the state to support the pharmaceutical industry. Each village will cover one to two thousand acres, with land allocation based on discussions with potential investors.

Babu also mentioned that a new policy promoting small industrial units and an MSME policy will be introduced to create more job opportunities in the state. The government expects investments of ₹22,000 crore to 30,000 crore for the expansion of Genome Valley over the next five years.
