Hyderabad: The state police have decided to strengthen security at the Secretariat following intelligence reports of possible trouble linked to TGSP protests. This decision comes even after disciplinary action was taken against some TGSP members.
Officials are concerned and asking questions about why the TGSP police are protesting. They are also wondering if there is a conspiracy or political support behind these sudden strikes that are troubling the police department.
Three days ago, the Chief Security Officer at the Secretariat placed restrictions on the use of WhatsApp and mobile phones by the Special Police stationed there. He warned that anyone found sharing anti-government messages would face disciplinary action. However, the intelligence department discovered that some TGSP members were still sharing offensive messages in their WhatsApp groups and informed the state Director General of Police (DGP).
In response, the state government has revamped the security at the Secretariat. Now, the Special Protection Force (SPF) will be responsible for guarding the entire premises of the state administration headquarters.
Officials explained that the SPF will assign police personnel to perform duties such as guarding, patrolling, and conducting access control and anti-sabotage checks regularly at the Secretariat.
In addition to the SPF, the Hyderabad City Police and the OCTOPUS (Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations) will continue their security duties around the Secretariat area.
The SPF, which is highly trained, will also use modern technology to monitor the Secretariat closely. Their goal is to prevent protests, strikes, and other forms of agitation by opposition parties and student groups.
The state intelligence has warned the government that various pressure groups and opposition parties are planning to stage protests at the Secretariat over public issues. These include recent clashes between the BRS and BJP workers near the Secretariat.
The SPF will work to prevent any such activities without causing disruptions in and around the Secretariat. Additionally, the Chief Security Officer has been instructed to further tighten security inside the Secretariat, particularly on the sixth floor, where the Chief Minister’s Office is located.
