Hyderabad: The city police arrested Mohammed Raheel Amir, son of former Bodhan MLA Mohammed Shakil Amir, for rash driving. Raheel had been evading arrest since last December and was taken into custody at the Hyderabad airport upon his return from Dubai. He was produced before a magistrate who sent him to judicial custody until April 22, after which he was transferred to Chanchalguda jail.
Raheel came back to Hyderabad three days after the Telangana High Court suspended the lookout circular (LOC) issued against him in connection with a rash driving incident at Praja Bhavan, the former CM’s camp office in Begumpet. The High Court directed Raheel to surrender before the investigating officer by April 19.
The incident involved Raheel driving a BMW car that crashed into barricades in front of Praja Bhavan. Although no one was injured, the barricade and the car were damaged. Raheel and three others in the car fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Initially, a different person claimed ownership of the car, but further investigation revealed that Raheel was the driver. He then fled to Dubai to join his father.
A total of 16 people were booked in connection with the incident, with five arrests made, including inspectors from Punjagutta and Bodhan police stations who were accused of aiding the suspects. It was alleged that the former MLA helped his son escape police custody while in Dubai and falsely implicated an unrelated individual in the case.
