The Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) authorities announced on Wednesday that engineers will begin soil testing for the MGBS-Falaknuma corridor. This 5.5 km stretch has been pending for nearly ten years as a proposed Metro line linkage. This update comes after concerns were raised by the Old City Metro Rail Joint Action Committee (JAC) about the lack of Metro connectivity in the area.
In response to an article published in The Hans India on August 22, HMRL officials clarified that soil testing will start soon to move the project forward. NVS Reddy, the Managing Director of HMRL, stated that tenders have been called for geotechnical investigation, which is necessary for designing the Metro pier foundations. The soil testing will begin in a couple of weeks.
The article mentioned that the JAC is preparing to protest to push for the completion of the project. They are concerned about the lack of seriousness and fear that it will become another unfulfilled election promise. The JAC leaders referred to the previous urgency shown by HMRL officials and public representatives before the 2018 Assembly elections. However, despite an allocation of Rs 500 crore for preparatory works, it was alleged that these efforts remained only on paper.
Overall, the HMRL authorities have assured that progress will be made with soil testing for the MGBS-Falaknuma corridor. This is an important step towards finally completing the proposed Metro line linkage in Hyderabad.
