Hyderabad: Sravan Rao, one of the main suspects in the phone tapping case, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning. He was grilled by the investigators for over six hours as they tried to gather more information about the involvement of top leaders from the previous BRS government. The SIT is especially interested in whether opposition leaders in the state were targeted.
Sravan Rao went to the Jubilee Hills police station, where SIT officials questioned him. This was his second round of questioning, as he did not reveal much during the first session held last week.
The SIT suspects that Sravan Rao played a major role in the phone tapping case. Out of the six people accused, five are police officials, while Sravan is not from the police department. Investigators believe he worked together with police officials in the operation.
It is believed that Sravan gave a list of people’s contact numbers to the police. The SIT is trying to find out who gave Sravan these phone numbers and who asked him to pass on the details of political leaders so their conversations could be recorded. Reports say that before the last Assembly elections, phone numbers related to CM Revanth Reddy’s relatives were collected and monitored.
Special equipment was used for the phone tapping. These were set up in hidden server rooms located at different places. Sravan Rao, who runs a media company, allegedly created one such server room in his media office. The setup was reportedly done under the instructions of another accused, Praneeth Rao.
Officials also said the SIT is looking into whether Sravan Rao made money from the phone tapping operation and who may have funded him. So far, Sravan has not answered many of the questions asked by the investigators.
