Former Minister Criticizes Government Over Incomplete Project
Wanaparthy: Former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy has criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the government for failing to complete the remaining 10% of the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy project. He pointed out that 90% of the project has already been finished, yet the government has been unable to bring it to completion.
Speaking during a press meet at his residence, Singireddy credited former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for successfully completing irrigation projects in the combined Palamuru district. He highlighted how these projects have provided irrigation water to lakhs of acres of farmland. He also discussed the challenges farmers face due to the lack of irrigation water, delayed farmer loan waivers, and the implementation of the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme.
The former minister urged the Irrigation Minister to take proactive steps in informing farmers about water availability and storage levels for the upcoming Yasangi season. He noted that despite record rainfall, including 35 days of uninterrupted rain that caused floods, nearly 25–30 tmcft of water was wasted and flowed into the sea due to poor water conservation efforts.
Singireddy also criticized the government for not convening an Irrigation Board meeting to address water management issues. Instead, he claimed they issued a vague statement through a deputy, saying there was no water in Jurala and that water could only be supplied up to Ramanpadu.
He called the Kodangal lift irrigation scheme from Jurala poorly planned and short-sighted. Singireddy emphasized that officials should focus on benefiting the people rather than competing over who gets credit for providing water from projects initiated during KCR’s tenure.
He concluded by urging the government to create additional reservoirs under the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation project and to conduct a thorough inspection of the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy tunnels and reservoirs. He stated that such steps are essential to resolving water issues and ensuring a better future for farmers in the region.
