Hyderabad: State Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, who is currently on a tour in the US, met with representatives from the USDA and the director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Manjit Mishra, in Washington, DC on Thursday. Reddy discussed the possibility of collaboration in areas such as IT, farm economics, seed technology, post-harvest management, marketing, emerging technologies, and new planting techniques.
During the meeting, Reddy emphasized the government’s desire for the US Department of Agriculture’s cooperation in research. He expressed the hope that Telangana farmers would be able to adopt the latest technology, and stressed the importance of investing in agriculture and allied sectors for future generations. Reddy also highlighted the significant progress made by the agriculture sector in Telangana under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR.
The minister stated that the government is aware of the role of agriculture and allied sectors in generating employment, which is why pro-agricultural policies have been implemented to support farmers. He mentioned various schemes and programs such as RythuBandhu and Rythu Bheema, which provide crop investment and insurance for farmers and their families.
Reddy also discussed the Mission Kakatiya program, which focuses on desilting lakes and ponds and improving water availability. Overall, agriculture has emerged as a booming sector in Telangana due to the government’s support for farmers.
