YS Sharmila, founder and president of the YSR Telangana Party, is set to join the Congress on January 4. She was invited to Delhi by AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge to complete the necessary formalities. Before joining the party, Sharmila plans to visit Idupulapaya to place her son’s wedding invite on her father’s mausoleum.

The Congress party has not yet decided whether to make Sharmila the president of the party’s State unit or accommodate her in the AICC. Sources suggest that Rahul Gandhi is interested in appointing her as the head of the State unit. An official announcement regarding Sharmila’s joining the Congress is expected today after her visit to Idupulapaya.
