Hyderabad: Telangana’s Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, has promised to help improve the economic conditions of people living near the Musi River. On Friday, during an event at Prajabhavan, she gave loans to women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as part of the Musi River Rehabilitation Programme.

Seethakka handed out Rs 2 lakh each to 172 women from SHGs. In total, Rs 3.44 crore was distributed. Along with her, MLAs Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala from Malakpet, Kausar Moinuddin from Karwan, and Deputy Mayor Srilata Shobhan Reddy were present at the event.

While speaking, Seethakka acknowledged the struggles faced by families who had to move away from their homes. She explained that the rising water levels of the Musi River pose serious risks, especially since natural disasters are happening more often. She emphasized the need to ensure safe living conditions, with clean air and water, to protect people from such dangers.

The minister also spoke about the difficult lives led by previous generations living near the Musi River. She reassured the public that the government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is committed to providing better living conditions for future generations.

Seethakka explained that the government is offering loans of Rs 2 lakh to each woman in the SHGs. She added that Rs 1.40 lakh of the loan will be waived off by the government, leaving only Rs 60,000 for the group to repay over three years.

In addition to financial help, Seethakka stressed that the government is focused on giving educational opportunities to the children of relocated families, ensuring a better future for them. She also mentioned that the government is providing various job opportunities through the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme and sewing machines to assist women in starting their own businesses.

At the event, MLA Ahmed Balala praised the people of Malakpet for their voluntary support of the Musi River project. He noted that over 130 families have already been moved into the 2BHK housing complex. Balala acknowledged that there are still some minor issues faced by the relocated families, but assured that the government will soon resolve them.
