The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Khammam is saving trees from being cut down. Due to heavy rains, a 60-year-old banyan tree fell at the Kothagudem office. N Balaram, the director of finance and personnel, took the initiative to safely uproot the tree using a JCB and load it onto a truck with the help of a heavy crane. The tree was then translocated to the guest house area. Another large 50-year-old tree near the shuttle court also fell during the heavy rain and was moved to the back side of the court.
In the past, old trees in the new open cast mine area in Ramagundam-1 were removed along with their roots and planted elsewhere. These trees are now growing back healthily. Environmental activists and the people of the coal town praised SCCL’s efforts to protect the environment and promote greenery.
