Last month, the Ministry of Defence ordered the reopening of five previously closed roads in Secunderabad Cantonment. However, commuters are still facing restrictions on these roads. Public transport like RTC buses and shared autos that used to run on these roads before they were closed ten years ago have not yet been restored. The Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) has brought this issue to the Chief Executive Officer of SCB twice, but no action has been taken.
Currently, only two-wheelers and cars are allowed on these reopened roads; auto rickshaws, cyclists, and pedestrians are still not permitted. Morning walkers are also not allowed to access these roads. The residents demand that all forms of traffic be permitted on the roads just like before their closure. Despite repeated appeals to lift these restrictions and reinstate normal traffic conditions, all requests have been ignored.
