In preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency has planned to create theme-based polling booths and model polling stations. These booths will aim to raise awareness among specific voter groups such as youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWD). One booth will have posters and slogans about the importance of voting, while others will be run by groups of women.
During a special meeting on Thursday, a senior officer of SCB stated that these measures are being implemented in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines. The main goal is to increase voter participation and awareness about voting. The Election Commission has also devised strategies to encourage young voters. Some booths will focus on promoting women’s empowerment, while others will educate people about the voting process.
Special arrangements will be made for PWD and senior citizens, including providing wheelchairs. Currently, 232 polling stations and 40 stations without ramp facilities are being equipped with ramps. The Election Commission has approved the use of postal ballots, and the distribution process is underway.
According to the election schedule, nominations can be filed from November 3 to November 10. The electoral staff in the SCB constituency have received training in accordance with the Election Commission’s directives. This training involved four Assistant Returning Officers, a Special Officer, and 20 Sector Officers.
