Karimnagar: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar handed out safety kits to toddy tappers during an event held in the city on Thursday.
During the event, a trainer demonstrated how to use the safety kits by climbing a tree. The trainer also gave a brief lesson to the toddy tappers on how the kits work and how they can help protect them while working.
Minister Prabhakar explained that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government is focusing on the welfare of toddy tappers. As part of this effort, the government is distributing “Katamayya Kits” for the safety of toddy tappers. These kits were made using advanced technology, similar to what Everest climbers use, and have received approval from NIT (National Institute of Technology).
The safety kits are designed to hold up to 1,500 kg in weight, making them very reliable for those who climb palm trees. In the first phase of distribution, 10,000 kits will be given to toddy tappers across 100 constituencies, excluding Hyderabad. A total of 2 lakh registered workers will eventually receive these kits.
Prabhakar also emphasized the importance of training. He said that all workers who have completed their training will receive kits, while those who haven’t yet should finish the training soon. Additionally, he urged the community to raise awareness about the safety kits and use social media to spread the word about the benefits of the protective gear.
