Hyderabad: The Rural Water Supply (RWS) department is preparing to handle the upcoming summer by closely monitoring water storage levels in Mission Bhagiratha source points and reservoirs. A detailed master plan has been developed to ensure a steady water supply during the challenging season.

The plan, created under the guidance of Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya (Seethakka), includes arrangements for drinking water assistance in every village. To maintain continuous water availability, the department has devised alternative measures, such as utilizing local water resources and deploying tankers in emergencies. Additionally, they have ensured the storage of essential chemicals like gas chlorine and liquid chlorine for water treatment plants, sufficient for three months.

Officials explained that grid engineers will oversee the bulk water supply to villages, while intra engineers will be responsible for ensuring water reaches individual households. Across the state, there are 24,459 villages and habitations. Among these, 1,059 habitations are not yet covered by the Mission Bhagiratha system. To address this, water will be supplied to 861 habitations using neighboring villages’ resources and private boreholes. For the remaining 198 habitations, the plan includes transporting water through new boreholes and tankers.

The government has also made preparations to address potential issues with Mission Bhagiratha. Alternative arrangements have been set up to ensure uninterrupted water supply. In case of shortages, resources such as 57,601 hand pumps, 47,126 single-phase motors, and 7,354 open wells have been made available for use during the summer months.
