Nagar Kurnool: A worrying case of administrative negligence has come to light in Teegalapalli village of Kodair mandal. A registered medical practitioner (RMP) was found running an unauthorised clinic inside a government village clinic building.
The government clinic, located in the Women’s Federation building, has been inactive for months because the appointed doctor has not been attending. During this period, the clinic was locked, leaving residents without access to essential healthcare services.
Taking advantage of the situation, the private practitioner reportedly rented a nearby room in the same building through an informal arrangement with the Women’s Federation. The room was turned into a makeshift clinic with facilities resembling those of a professional MBBS doctor, which angered the local community.
When questioned about the incident on Tuesday, Kodair Medical Officer Dasarath said he was unaware of the situation. He explained, “The building has multiple rooms. Someone might be using one of them, but we were unaware of their activities.” He also promised to take immediate steps to reopen the government clinic and restore its operations.
However, when media personnel revisited the site the next day, they found that the clinic’s signboard had been removed, and the RMP had vacated the premises. The practitioner had also taken all medical equipment with him to avoid further scrutiny.
This incident, which occurred in a minister’s constituency, has sparked harsh criticism and raised serious concerns about the state of healthcare governance in rural areas.
