Warangal: Revival of Mamnoor Airstrip Likely Soon
The revival of the Mamnoor Airstrip in Warangal is looking more likely after a high-level meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The airstrip, which stopped operating in the mid-1980s, has been the subject of many discussions and proposals over the years, but nothing substantial has happened until now. This has been disappointing for the people in the region.
Several important officials attended the meeting, including Konda Surekha, the Minister for Environment, Forest and Endowments, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Warangal district in-charge Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Vem Narender Reddy, an advisor to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), was also present. Their discussions have brought new hope for the airport’s revival.
Minister Konda Surekha stated that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is eager to see the Mamnoor Airport operational soon. She mentioned that GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited has given its approval, which is necessary for any airport development within 150 kilometers of Shamshabad. This approval makes it possible to move forward with the Mamnoor Airstrip’s revival.
Additionally, there is a proposal to start cargo services at the airstrip. These cargo services are expected to be very useful, especially once the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) begins producing goods.
Another issue affecting Warangal’s development is the outdated Master Plan. The first master plan was created in 1971 and was valid for 15 years, but since then, no new plan has been introduced, slowing down the city’s progress.
