A Revanth Reddy, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, was sworn in as the youngest Chief Minister of Telangana at a ceremony at the L B Stadium in Hyderabad. Notable Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, attended the ceremony.
The new government will have a Cabinet of 11 ministers, including the Chief Minister and one Deputy Chief Minister, with a mix of different castes and regions. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath to the new team.
After the swearing-in, Revanth Reddy signed the first file on the implementation of ‘Six Guarantees’ and allotted a job to a differently-abled postgraduate student named Rajani.
Revanth Reddy and his wife received blessings from Sonia Gandhi during the event. Sonia Gandhi hugged newly-appointed ministers Seethakka and Konda Surekha after they took their oaths.
The new government plans to convene a short session of the State Assembly next week to administer oaths to all 119 newly elected members and elect the Speaker. To avoid any trouble, the party high command cleared the name of Vikarabad MLA G Prasad Rao for the position.
The first phase of ministers includes Bhatti Vikramarka, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodara Raja Narasimha, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, D Sridhar Dabu, P Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, S Anasuya Seethakka, Tummala Nageshwara Rao, and Jupally Krishna Rao. Revanth and the ministers received applause from the audience during the oath-taking ceremony.
After taking their oaths, the Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers thanked Sonia Gandhi and other top Congress leaders for the opportunity to serve in the first Congress-led state government of Telangana.
Prior to the ceremony, Revanth and the Congress leaders were welcomed by party workers at Shamshabad airport and then proceeded to a hotel in the city. They later arrived at the LB Stadium for the programme. The Congress workers also organized cultural programmes to entertain the gathering before the swearing-in ceremony.
