Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised a transparent government during his reply to the discussion on state finances. He mentioned that his government has started by making documents public through a white paper and will consult with all political parties before making important laws.
In the past 10 years, the state has accumulated a lot of debt. The daily report from the RBI showed the unhealthy financial situation. When TRS came to power, Telangana had enough funds for 303 days on average, but that number has halved in the past decade. The government has been seeking loans from the RBI on a daily basis and has struggled to even pay salaries.
In response to AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi’s comment about the government selectively using statistics, Revanth Reddy explained that data is gathered and analyzed from different sources when discussing budget estimates and actual expenditures. CAG data is used for revenue receipts and expenditure, while RBI data is used for loans and advances.
Revanth Reddy clarified that the goal is not to criticize the previous government or gain political advantage. These are bitter truths that people should know, and the details are made public only after the Finance Secretary’s approval.
He also emphasized that the Congress government would maintain friendly relations with the Union Government for Telangana’s development. Revanth Reddy reached out to BJP State president G Kishan Reddy for help in meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss support for various schemes and to secure funds for the state. He also invited AIMIM members to the Secretariat and assured them of a democratic and transparent form of governance.
