Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of Telangana visited Delhi on Thursday and met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. During the meetings, Revanth raised several issues and requested assistance from the central government.
One of the main concerns raised by the Chief Minister was the shortage of IPS officers in the state. He informed Amit Shah that Telangana currently has only 76 IPS officers, which is insufficient considering the creation of new districts and the need for supervision in various departments. Revanth requested the allocation of 29 additional IPS posts, and Amit Shah assured him that they would be allocated when the new batch of IPS officers is inducted in 2024.
Revanth also urged the Union Home Minister to resolve long-pending issues related to the division of assets between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He specifically mentioned the Ninth Schedule of the Reorganisation Act and requested a smooth bifurcation of State Bhavan in New Delhi.
In addition, the Chief Minister asked for financial support from the central government. He requested Rs 88 crore to strengthen the Anti-Narcotics Bureau and an additional Rs 90 crore to consolidate the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau. Revanth also asked for Rs 408 crore to be collected from Andhra Pradesh for the use of certain buildings in Hyderabad that still belong to Telangana.
On the development front, Revanth discussed the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail with Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. He also shared plans to develop the Musi riverfront in Hyderabad, including amusement parks, waterfalls, water sports for children, business centers, and shopping complexes.
Lastly, the Chief Minister requested permission to provide assistance under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana and urged for the release of funds for new houses in Telangana.
During his meeting with Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Revanth emphasized the importance of granting national project status to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project. He mentioned that the project had already received several permissions and requested immediate approval.
Overall, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy sought the central government’s help in resolving various pending issues and providing support for the development and welfare of Telangana.
