Telangana to Introduce New Tourism Policy in Assembly Session

The Telangana government plans to unveil a new Tourism policy during the upcoming Assembly session. The goal is to position Telangana as a top destination for temple, forest, and eco-tourism in the country. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a meeting on Friday to discuss the policy and expressed concern over the absence of a dedicated tourism policy for the state in the past decade.

Officials have been directed to study the tourism models of Dubai, Singapore, and China. The Chief Minister suggested replicating ideas such as establishing world-class shopping malls in Hyderabad, similar to those in Dubai and Singapore. Hyderabad’s favorable year-round weather was highlighted as an advantage that should be leveraged for tourism development.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of promoting the automobile industry in Hyderabad, akin to Tamil Nadu’s model. He proposed integrating temple tourism with eco-tourism by linking temples to Tiger Reserve Forest areas. He noted that temple tourism has seen a rise since the introduction of free bus travel for women.

Revanth Reddy stressed the need to move away from routine tourism and focus on innovative concepts. He proposed the idea of creating a mega convention center in the planned Future City, ensuring it would be within 20 minutes of the airport. Additionally, he suggested identifying and developing venues for destination weddings to attract more visitors.

A comprehensive report on tourism sites and lease agreements has been ordered. The CM warned of strict action against individuals or entities that fail to vacate properties after their lease agreements expire. Moving forward, tourism spots will be leased only to reputed companies.

The Chief Minister also announced plans to promote Osmania Hospital as a tourist destination and take measures to boost the number of visitors to Charminar. He stated that the new Tourism policy would be introduced in the Assembly, followed by a detailed discussion. Officials provided updates on tourism policies from other states to help shape Telangana’s approach.
