Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has stated that the contract agency will be held accountable for the sinking of piers at the Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage of the Kaleshwaram project. The project has been operational for five years and successfully withstood last year’s highest flood. The government and the agency are investigating the reasons behind the mishap, and the agency will rectify the construction anomalies. KTR has not yet spoken to the officials regarding this issue.

KTR is also waiting for the report from the National Dam Safety Authority’s visit. He assured that there will be no financial burden on the state due to any damage to the barrage, as the agency will cover the cost of repairs. He strongly criticized the opposition for calling the Kaleshwaram irrigation project a ‘white elephant’, stating that it is actually the Congress that is the real white elephant of the country.

In a strong attack on the BJP, KTR questioned why they have not agreed to establish an OBC welfare ministry despite their announcement of making a backward class leader as Chief Minister of Telangana after the upcoming assembly polls. He pointed out that even though they shifted their state party president, who belongs to the BC community, they have not fulfilled this demand. BRS has been advocating for an OBC ministry since Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, and the Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a resolution in support of it.
