Residents of Nizampet and Bachupally have been suffering from high levels of flooding every monsoon due to a tussle between GHMC and Nizampet Municipality. Drainage pipeline works near Pragathi Nagar Lake have been progressing slowly for almost two years, causing severe water logging. There is no proper pathway for rainwater to flow into the drains, resulting in water overflowing onto the lanes and entering houses. Silpa Brindavan, Bandari Layout, and Pragathi Nagar are among the colonies worst affected by flooding.

Local politicians often make promises during the monsoon season, but residents feel they are soon forgotten. Municipal Administration minister KT Rama Rao promised to address the issue in 2016 and 2020, but no long-term measures to prevent flooding have been taken. Some monsoon-related works were started two years ago, but there has been no progress. Even the cleaning of drains is left to residents, who must hire private workers to do so. Residents are calling on leaders to remember their promises and take action to prevent flooding.
