The waste transfer station at Deepti Sri Nagar, Miyapur has been emitting a strong smell from burning garbage for the past ten days. This has raised concerns among locals in Miyapur and surrounding areas due to health problems and environmental threats.
Residents have noticed that the transfer station has become a spot for burning waste, happening during late night and early morning hours. The smoke is thick and visible even in the darkness. Despite complaints to the Pollution Control Board and GHMC officials, no concrete actions have been taken to address the issue.
One resident, Mahathi, living near the transfer station, shared how the constant smoke has made it difficult to open doors and windows in their house. The burning has been ongoing for ten days, with twigs and logs being added to keep the fire going.
Social activist Vinay Vangala, also a local of Miyapur, expressed disappointment at the situation. The waste transfer station has become a major source of pollution through illegal burning activities. Despite promises from GHMC officials to address the issue, no significant actions have been taken to stop the burning and transfer the trash to Jawahar Nagar instead. This has led to suffering among locals and stray animals in the area.
