Gadwal: Reading Skills Enhance Critical Thinking, Says Additional Collector

Students’ ability to read plays a key role in developing critical thinking, which ultimately contributes to building a better society, said District Additional Collector Lakshminarayana. He made these remarks while attending the closing ceremony of the 57th National Library Week on Wednesday as the chief guest, alongside DPO Shyam Sunder.

During the event, the Additional Collector revealed plans to use cess funds from village panchayats for constructing library buildings. He assured attendees that new library projects in the district would be completed soon, aiming to improve access to reading resources for the community.

Highlighting the importance of libraries, Lakshminarayana shared that efforts are underway to establish fully equipped libraries in the district, modeled after those in municipalities. These libraries will include facilities like dedicated reading rooms, record rooms, and even a press club. He noted that libraries have evolved over the years, transitioning from places that mainly offered newspapers and novels to becoming hubs for understanding government welfare schemes and preparing for competitive exams.

The Additional Collector also encouraged philanthropic individuals to contribute to this cause by donating books. He emphasized that providing students with books for competitive exams could help them achieve success while fostering a lifelong interest in reading. Cultivating reading habits, he said, enhances decision-making skills and promotes sound thinking, which are essential for personal and societal growth.
