Warangal Railway Station to Get a Major Upgrade

Warangal Railway Station in Telangana is undergoing a major redevelopment as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This project aims to improve railway stations across India. The work is progressing quickly, and the station is expected to get a complete facelift by the end of this year.

Warangal Railway Station falls under the Secunderabad Division and is classified as a Non-Suburban Grade-3 (NSG-3) station. It is located on the Kazipet–Vijayawada section and serves around 31,887 passengers daily. The station earns approximately ₹41.09 crore annually. It provides transportation for people from Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Kazipet. About 137 trains halt at this station, and one pair of trains originate or terminate here. The station also serves as a stop for important superfast trains traveling to cities like New Delhi, Howrah, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad, and Tirupati.

To accommodate the expected rise in passengers, Indian Railways has planned a major transformation of the station. Warangal Railway Station’s architecture is inspired by the historic Kakatiya dynasty, reflecting the region’s cultural heritage. Over the years, improvements have been made, including modernizing waiting halls and platforms and adding new passenger facilities.

The redevelopment will include separate areas for arriving and departing passengers to reduce congestion. There will be better parking facilities, including basement parking, and improved connections with other transport services. A new 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) will be built, along with three lifts and four escalators for passenger convenience. Existing toilets will be upgraded, and new toilet blocks, including facilities for differently-abled passengers, will be constructed. Additionally, new signboards, train indication boards, and coach indication boards will be installed to help passengers navigate the station more easily.

According to a senior official from South Central Railway, about 50% of the work has already been completed. The remaining work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be finished within this financial year.
