The Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee has recommended that the Ratna Bhandar (inner treasury) of the Jagannath temple in Puri be opened during the 2024 Rath Yatra. This recommendation is for the purpose of inspection by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in order to assess the structural stability of the treasury.
The ASI will have the opportunity to inspect the Ratna Bhandar while the sibling deities are on their nine-day journey to Gundicha Temple. If necessary, the ASI will carry out any repairs needed for the inner treasury, according to Puri Collector Samarth Verma.
This matter was discussed in a meeting of the temple Managing Committee after receiving a letter from the ASI. After a detailed discussion, the Managing Committee has agreed to send a recommendation letter to the State government, requesting permission for the ASI to inspect the Ratna Bhandar during the next Rath Yatra.
