The Civil Supplies Department in Hyderabad has asked white ration card holders to update their KYC within the next month. This is to prevent fraudulent ration cards and misuse of ration items. The Central Government has made it mandatory for ration card holders to complete the “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process by January 31, 2024.

Commissioner Devendra Singh Chauhan stressed the importance of this measure. He advised all ration card recipients to complete the KYC process by the end of the next month. The state has not updated the KYC for ration cards since 2014, which has led to outdated cards being used for rice distribution. The Central Government is providing free rice to every ration card holder as part of the Prime Minister Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme during the ongoing pandemic.

To prevent misuse and ensure accurate beneficiary lists, KYC updating has been made mandatory. Over the past two months, ration shops throughout the state have updated the KYC of every person listed on a ration card. This involves capturing thumbprints or iris scans. Currently, 70.80% of people statewide have successfully updated their ration card KYC during this ongoing two-month process. Medchal district has the highest completion rate at 87.81%, while Wanaparthy district is lagging behind at 54.17% completion rate.
