Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader Abishek Manu Singhvi will officially file his nomination as the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha bypoll from Telangana at 11 am on Monday.
This bypoll became necessary after K Keshav Rao, a member of the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi), resigned from the party before joining the Congress.
On Sunday evening, a special meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) was organized to introduce Singhvi to all the ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs).
The CLP expressed confidence that Singhvi, with his vast experience and knowledge, would be a valuable asset for Telangana. They believe he would effectively fight for the rights that were promised to the state in the AP State Re-Organisation Act of 2014, which the previous BRS government could not achieve during its decade-long rule.
Later, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy spoke to the media about several issues that have been pending with the central government. These include the Bayyaram Steel Project, a railway coach factory, and various irrigation and drinking water projects. Revanth Reddy emphasized that Singhvi, being an eminent lawyer in the Supreme Court, would not only raise these issues effectively in the Rajya Sabha but also fight the pending cases of the state in the apex court.
Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy also praised Singhvi, describing him as the best choice for the position. He highlighted Singhvi’s rich political and legal background, as well as his reputation as one of the top advocates in the country. He also mentioned that Singhvi’s father, L S Singhvi, was a respected figure who served as India’s Ambassador to the UK, a member of the Lok Sabha, and the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Expressing his gratitude, Singhvi thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, and all Congress MLAs and MLCs for their support. He also expressed his deep appreciation to Sonia Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge for selecting him to represent Telangana in the Rajya Sabha. Singhvi assured everyone that he would be a strong voice for Telangana in Parliament.
