Rajasthan Royals are still at the top of the Indian Premier League 2023 table, despite losing to Lucknow Super Giants by 10 runs on Wednesday. The game was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which hadn’t hosted an IPL match in four years. Royals made 144/6 while chasing 155. Jos Buttler and Yashavi Jaiswal opened the batting and kept up with the required run rate, but a remarkable comeback by LSG led to their victory.
Jaiswal scored 44 off 35 balls with four boundaries and two sixes, while Buttler made 40 in 41 balls. LSG’s first breakthrough came when Jaiswal cut Marcus Stoinis to short third man fielder Avesh Khan. RR lost momentum after Sanju Samson was run out following a mix-up with Buttler, and then Buttler was caught at deep midwicket. LSG’s Kyle Mayers top-scored with 51 before Marcus Stoinis (21 off 16 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (28 off 20) helped the team reach 154/7.
Royals have eight points from six games with four wins, while LSG also have the same number of wins from the same number of games. Royals are on top due to their better net run rate than LSG. Faf du Plessis is currently the Orange Cap holder with 259 runs from five games, followed by Jos Buttler with 244 runs and Venkatesh Iyer with 234 runs. LSG’s Mark Wood, Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal and Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan all have 11 wickets each, but Wood leads the table due to his better economy rate of 8.12.
