Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has returned to the Lok Sabha after his membership was restored following the Supreme Court’s stay on his conviction in a defamation case. This is seen as a boost to the opposition ahead of the no-trust motion against the Modi government. Gandhi is expected to be one of the key speakers for the opposition bloc INDIA during the motion. The disqualification of Gandhi as an MP has ceased to operate based on the Supreme Court order. Gandhi received a warm welcome from Congress and other opposition MPs upon his arrival in Parliament. Party leaders and workers have hailed his reinstatement as an MP, with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge describing it as a “welcome step”. Gandhi has changed his Twitter bio to reflect his new status as a Member of Parliament. He was previously disqualified in March after being convicted in a defamation case.
