Rachakonda Police Arrest Two, Seize Heroin Worth Rs 23 Lakh
The Rachakonda police arrested two men on Friday for their alleged role in an interstate drug smuggling operation. During the bust, authorities seized 190 grams of heroin, a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and a weighing machine. The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at Rs 23 lakh.
The suspects were identified as Mahesh Sarem, aged 28, and Mahipal, aged 19. Both are residents of Neredmet in Hyderabad and originally hail from Rajasthan. The duo worked as gas repair technicians. Police stated that the arrests came after an investigation into a drug distribution network operating in the area.
At a press conference, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu revealed details about the case. Mahesh reportedly developed ties with a drug supplier named Samsuddin, based in Chainpura village, Rajasthan. He purchased 200 grams of heroin from Samsuddin for Rs 1 lakh through an online transaction.
Mahesh traveled to Hyderabad by train on January 10 and stayed with Mahipal at his home in Sainik Nagar, Neredmet. The two allegedly planned to sell the heroin at higher prices. To avoid detection, Mahesh used ride-hailing services to deliver the drugs to buyers.
“Mahesh delivered heroin to multiple individuals across Hyderabad using rides booked to random locations. Payments for the drugs were made digitally to make tracking difficult,” Commissioner Sudheer Babu explained.
Police investigations also uncovered that Mahesh sent heroin parcels to other recipients based on orders placed by a customer named Bajarang. The suspects used online payment systems to receive money from buyers, minimizing face-to-face interactions.
Authorities are now working to uncover the larger network behind the operation. Commissioner Sudheer Babu confirmed that efforts are being made to locate Samsuddin, the primary drug supplier, as well as other individuals tied to the racket.
“Tracing the consumers and apprehending others involved in this network is a top priority. We are gathering information about suppliers in Rajasthan and their links to drug trafficking activities in Hyderabad,” the commissioner said.
Since 2024, the Rachakonda police have seized drugs worth Rs 88.33 crore as part of their intensified crackdown on drug-related crimes. The police are focusing on stronger surveillance and enforcement to combat the growing issue of interstate drug smuggling.
