Concern Over Government Control of Hindu Temples

Dr. P.G.K. Venkateshwara Rao, President of the Rashtriya Kurni Sangham, raised concerns about the government’s control over Hindu temples. He pointed out that the Endowment Department oversees Hindu religious institutions, a policy which he claims began as a result of a conspiracy by Nehru after India gained independence. Dr. Rao questioned why only Hindu temples are under government control, while other religious institutions are not.

Dr. Rao stressed that offerings made by Hindu devotees should be used exclusively for the construction and development of Hindu temples. He argued that these funds should not be used for the development of other religions. In a secular democracy, where all religions are supposed to be treated equally, he wondered why only Hindu temples face such restrictions from the Endowment Department.

Dr. Rao called for the immediate end of government control over Hindu temples. He suggested that each temple should operate as an independent institution. By doing this, he believes it will encourage spiritual growth and strengthen religious sentiments among Hindus.
