Hyderabad: The Roads and Buildings Department Principal Secretary, Vikas Raj, has taken serious note of the recent collapse of the Secretariat building’s railing. He is also concerned about the delay in submitting an inquiry report on the incident. On Thursday, he directed the engineers to provide a detailed report on the defects and problems in the building by Friday.
The authorities had not submitted a report even 24 hours after the incident, which frustrated officials. As a result, the building engineers were instructed to examine the construction and report all issues immediately. The collapse of a part of the railing on Wednesday quickly spread on social media, raising concerns about the building’s quality.
Reports indicate that the Secretariat building has several large cracks. Minister Komatireddy also expressed his anger at the representatives of Shapoorji Pallonji Company, the firm responsible for the construction. Fortunately, no one was present at the site during the collapse, preventing a major accident. However, the vehicle of Ramagundam Market Committee Chairman was damaged.
The Secretariat was built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore, but allegations have emerged that the construction work was of poor quality. Authorities are now under pressure to investigate the issue thoroughly.
