The Election Commission of India is getting ready for the Assembly elections in Telangana State at the end of this year. They want to make sure the election process is fair and efficient, so they’ve told the State government to transfer officials who have been in the same job for three years and are involved in election-related work. This applies to many different types of officers, including those in the police department.
The Commission doesn’t want officers who have been recommended for disciplinary action in the past, or who have charges against them, to be involved in election-related work. They also don’t want officers who have criminal cases pending against them to be involved. Officers who are retiring soon or who work in certain departments are exempt from these rules.
If electoral rolls need to be revised during an election year, officers involved in that process will only be transferred after the final publication of the rolls.
