The government asked the electricity department to restore power supply to the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad after it was disconnected due to unpaid bills. The stadium was set to host an IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the restoration of power means the match will go on as planned.
Tickets for the IPL match were sold out and organizers were preparing for the game when the power was cut off. This sparked public backlash and concerns that canceling the match would harm the stadium and the city’s reputation.
Despite warnings from energy officials in the past, the stadium authorities had not paid their dues. The court had ordered the Hyderabad Cricket Association to pay Rs 3.05 crore, but they failed to do so. As a result, the power supply was disconnected until the bills were settled.
After the power supply was restored, the association planned to hold an emergency meeting to address the issue before the match began. The sports community and cricket fans were relieved that the match would proceed as scheduled.
